Purpose of the position/Context:

To provide telecom services to internal and external customers, key customers & organizations through state-of-the-art transmission technologies mainly PDH, SDH, DWDM & SHDSL.

Role context/Duties and responsibilities:

Carry out installations of Optical Transmission equipments: SDH, DWDM, HDSL, etc.

Carry out service provisioning of E1, E3/DS3, STM's circuits through NMS & up to physical connections.

Carry out operation, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair works of all Cable XSSN systems.

Participate actively in the projects: implementation & commissioning.

Duties and responsibilities:

Overview:The jobholder has to work on wide range of transmission equipment of latest technology. He has to deal with complex equipment mostly independent from direct supervision. He shall occasionally have employees working under his direct supervision such as tradesmen or labourers.

Costs & Profitability (High): The jobholder works on valuable assets. He uses sophisticated tools and works on costly equipment. He has direct responsibility for achieving revenue targets. He has high scope of impact on Qtel's profitability on the operational part.

Customers (High): The jobholder deals directly with all types of internal and external customers. He may have influence on the customers on the selection of equipment type and sometimes on the type of service.

Business orientation(Low): Purely technical.

Planning & Organising (Low): The jobholder normally executes tasks already planned and organized by the engineer in charge.

Problem Solving (High): The jobholder deals with faults & problems from simple to complex. He is therefore completely responsible for the consequence of actions done by him to handle the situation. This needs competency. The risk of error must be very negligible.

Communicating, negotiating & influencing (Medium): The jobholder should be capable to inter-communicate with his colleagues and with customers on their premises. A lack of communication may lead to delay in service provisioning to the customer

Experience and qualifications:
Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge

Three years experience in the Cable Transmission systems.

Minimum Entry Qualifications

Diploma in Telecommunications or equivalent.

Key performance indicators:

Knowledge and quality of work up to Qtel standard & customer satisfaction.

Independence & ability to solve complex problems/faults in the field.

Minimum downtime and quick restoration of service.

Quantity of work and low wastage of material.

Attendance, communication & general attitude towards customers and colleagues.

Skills:
Technical & non technical

Technical operation & maintenance skills.

Troubleshooting and fault diagnosis skills.

Knowledge of NMS role and basic functions.

Knowledge of fibre optic concepts, types of ODF & DDF and their related connectors & accessories.

Basic Knowledge of new technology such as DWDM, etc.

Basic knowledge of IP addresses.

Conversant with use of appropriate tools & test equipment.

Communication skills.

Computer intermediate skills of windows and related basic applications such as Word, Excel, etc.
